Tango in San Telmo
This week I have been in Buenos Aires. It is a fabulous time to visit: spring is in full swing, the Jacaranda trees are covered in purple flowers, the weather is balmy, and people spill out onto the streets outside the many cafes and bars in this vibrant South American city.
One of the things I was looking forward to most in Buenos Aires – apart from a tender Argentine beef steak grilled to perfection and a glass or two of local Malbec red wine – was watching some Tango. Although it is possible to spend an evening watching a Tango show, I was hoping to find something a bit more informal. I found it in the beautiful old suburb of San Telmo, where it is possible to watch talented dancers while enjoying a cool beer and some empanadas in the shade of some trees in the square…
